Welcome to the UF Health Science Center-Jacksonville Research Affair's Clinical Research Unit located on the UF and Shands Jacksonville campus. The unit conducts Phase I and II clinical research studies in all areas of medicine. Unlike Phase III and IV clinical trials, which are later stages of testing involving a greater number of participants and medical facilities, Phase I and II trials are investigations that are fresh out of the laboratory. They require much smaller test groups in a more controlled environment, and are considered highly experimental.
Shands Jacksonville launched the research unit through funding from the UF College of Medicine-Jacksonville and the UF Clinical and Transational Science Institute. It is one of a small number of healthcare organizations nationwide that conduct Phase I and II studies.
The 4 bed unit on the 6th floor of the main hospital building, is fully staffed with dedicated registered nurses 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. With numerous primary investigators currently conducting research on our campus, we are committed to the highest standard of scientific and ethical integrity in performing sponsored and investigator-initiated clinical research trials.
