Meet the Experts
Andy Godwin, M.D., Center's Medical Director and Assistant Dean
Godwin graduated from and completed his internship at Medical University of South Carolina. He then completed his emergency medicine residency training here at the UF HSCJ. Upon finishing this training he was offered a position as a faculty member and is now an associate professor in the UF Department of Emergency Medicine. He has also remained very involved in the same residency program in which he graduated from and has been the program director of this residency for many years.
He has a special interest in emergency airway management and has lectured on this topic across the U.S. and around the world.
In 2000, after exploring his own interest in the concept of simulation training, he began incorporating simulation training into the emergency medicine residency curriculum. After about 5 years, with increasing use of simulation training in the residency program, Godwin began to explore moving this type of training to an institutional initiative level. He has played an integral role in this entire process, which ultimately lead to the creation of the existing Center for Simulation Education and Safety Research.
Bruce Nappi, Administrative Director
Nappi has 35 years of experience with high technology product development, with particular strengths in business organization, product development and operations. He was formerly director of advanced technology for the Lahey Hitchcock Clinic in Massachusetts. At Lahey, he led advanced automation efforts, which included telemedicine and automated surgical systems.
Prior to this, he led medical instrument development efforts for a number of commercial firms that included cardiac ultrasound, heart pumps, computer automated dentistry, endoscopes and radiology phantoms. His simulation background covers a very large range, including fluid dynamics, thermal systems, electronics, mechanical systems and numerous medical applications.
