Educational Goals and Objectives

Objective

The objective of this program is to provide advanced training in clinical dentistry beyond the level of predoctoral education.

Goals

To enhance the resident's ability to evaluate a patient's oral health and overall systemic health in order to formulate a well-planned, well-sequenced treatment plan that integrates the various disciplines and specialties into the practice of advanced general dentistry.

To improve the resident's confidence and competence to assume complete responsibility for the patient's comprehensive dental needs and the ability to meet those needs by successfully performing indicated procedures in all disciplines integral to the practice of advanced general dentistry.

To develop the resident's appreciation for the complexity of proposed care, enabling him or her to make the judgment to refer patients to other specialists when appropriate and then to coordinate treatment when other health care providers are involved.

To enhance the resident's ability to recognize and treat dental and medical emergencies.

To become knowledgeable in the area of practice management and administration, providing a safe and hazard free environment for patients and staff, while treating all patients in an ethical manner.

To encourage residents to have a life long appreciation and commitment to continuing education and community service.
