There are key physical, psychological and physiological differences between adults and children. This becomes even more important in the treatment of a sick or injured child, every parent's nightmare. In response to this vital need, the UF Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Shands Jacksonville offers comprehensive pediatric emergency services, making it one of only two hospitals in Northeast Florida to have a separate pediatric emergency department (PED) that focuses exclusively on children's needs.

In our PED, we blend the art and science of pediatric emergency medicine. We offer the higest quality treatment done in a "kid-friendly" environment. The theme in our PED is "Finding Nemo" and each of our examination rooms represents a Disney character cheering up the children and their families.

The main strength of our PED is our talented team of physicians and nursing staff. The physicians are trained in pediatrics, emergency medicine and pediatric emergency medicine. Our nurses are certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support.

They truly understand the differences between adults and children, a crucial element in providing proper and efficient pediatric care. Your child will receive the highest level of care. In addition, our division offers one of two accredited Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship in the state of Florida.

We encourage you to explore our site further and contact us with any additional questions you may have.
