Resident Reflections

As you consider the University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville for your emergency medicine training, please read what our residents have to say as they look upon their experience with us:

Edwin Forrest, M.D.Edwin Forrest, M.D.; Current Chief Resident

"I am from outside of New Orleans, Louisiana and went to undergraduate and medical school at LSU. I chose the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville for residency because I wanted a residency program that provided an opportunity for a significant amount of procedures, many critically ill patients and resident autonomy. This program has provided all of that and more. Following residency, I plan on pursuing a fellowship in international emergency medicine and obtaining an MPH degree. Outside of medicine I enjoy reading, any sports—especially mountain biking, and traveling."

Benjamin Lenhart, M.D.Benjamin Lenhart, M.D.; Current Chief Resident

"I was born and raised in Gainesville, FL and I still bleed orange and blue today. Although I thought that I was going to move further away after attending both undergrad and medical school at UF, I couldn’t resist coming to residency at UFCOM-Jacksonville. The level of acuity here is unmatched and I knew that if I could make it through this program, I would be ready for anything.

After residency, I plan on practicing in a community hospital near the coast—somewhere warm and sunny. Eventually I would like to work in an academic setting. My interests include international emergency medicine and critical care. During my free time I enjoy traveling, college football, good beer, fishing and water sports."

John Lissoway, M.D.John Lissoway, M.D.; Current Chief Resident

"I was born and raised in the mountains of Los Alamos, New Mexico. I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Spanish and spent a year studying abroad in Mexico. I then earned my medical degree from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in Albuquerque. After graduation, my fiancé, an OB-GYN resident, and I moved cross country to train at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville. I enjoy the high volume, high acuity, inner-city emergency department character of UFCOM-J. The beautiful beaches, sunshine and consistent, year-round surfing and kayaking conditions in Jacksonville are my sanctuary outside of the emergency department. After residency, I hope to pursue a fellowship in international or wilderness medicine."
