Welcome to the website for the University of Florida College of Medicine - Jacksonville (UFCOM-J) adult Infectious Disease Fellowship Program in Jacksonville, FL. Our two-year program offers outstanding clinical training and is accredited by the ACGME.

Shands Jacksonville is the primary site for the general infectious diseases consultation experience during the 2 years of training. In the first year, fellows spend 2 months learning clinical microbiology at 3 local laboratory sites, each providing a unique experience. Fellows contribute to the inpatient ID consultation service and the hospital Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee meetings at Shands Jacksonville, along with supervised continuity clinics in HIV care at the UFCOM-J ID outpatient clinics and the Duval County Health Department's Communicable Diseases Clinics.

During the second year of training, in addition to the ID consultative service at Shands Jacksonville, the fellow delves more deeply into infectious diseases with rotations at the Mayo Hospital – Jacksonville on a busy solid organ transplantation service, Wolfson Children’s Hospital consulting in pediatric infectious diseases, and Shands-Jacksonville as the infectious diseases consultant to the MICU team. The fellow regularly attends Shands Jacksonville Infection Control Committee meetings and completes the Infectious Diseases Society’s Hospital Infection Control Course. Approximately 20% of each year's rotations are devoted to research and scholarly activity.

Our division outpatient ID clinics and our affiliation with the Duval County Health Department, Communicable Diseases Division provide a rich diversity of outpatient clinical resources for our fellows with experience in HIV/AIDS care, TB diagnosis and management, sexually transmitted disease diagnosis and treatment, travel medicine, pre- and post-exposure rabies vaccination, as well as general infectious diseases outpatient consultation.

In addition to Medical Grand Rounds and core conferences available through the Department of Medicine, the Infectious Disease Division has a continuing active schedule of conferences including core topics, board reviews, case conferences, TB, research and transplantation conferences.

Please explore our site further for detailed information on our fellowship, faculty and division. If you have additional questions, please contact us. Thank you for your interest in our program.
