Three University of Florida College Of Medicine-Jacksonville Emergency Medicine Residency Program residents returned from Boston earlier this week as victors of the first annual Emergency Medicine Residents' Association (EMRA) Resident SimWars Competition.

On October 6, 2009 Emergency Medicine Residents Drs. Jack Forrest, Mark Laperouse and John Lissoway battled against five other residency teams from around the country in this interactive simulation competition.

The teams challenged each other on simulated patient care, as an expert panel rated their teamwork, communication, leadership and medical care and management of the patient. Each encounter was also recorded by an advanced audio-visual system that captured multiple views of the simulation. In addition, audience votes played a role in the overall team scores.

The competition was held during the Council of Emergency Medicine Residency Directors (CORD) meeting at the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) annual meeting in Boston, MA. The event was sponsored by the Foundation for Education and Research in Neurological Emergencies (FERNE), with support from the Society
for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM)
Simulation Academy.
