About the College

The University of Florida Health Science Center Jacksonville is a metropolitan clinical teaching site for the Gainesville-based Colleges of Nursing, Medicine, Pharmacy and Dentistry. Students from these colleges rotate through the various clinical settings of the Shands Jacksonville campus, the UF Primary Care Centers and UF Specialty Care Centers located throughout Jacksonville. In addition to University of Florida students, other local colleges and schools use this campus for student clinical placement.

The UF College of Nursing began offering M.S.N. studies in Jacksonville in 1979. In 1999, Ph.D. courses were made available in Jacksonville. Then, in 2003, the campus was given approval to offer upper-level B.S.N. courses.

Classes are held at the nursing suite, located on the third floor of the Learning Resource Center on Shands Jacksonville's main campus, and in the distance education classroom (Room 4003) on the fourth floor of the hospital's main building.

In addition to traditional classroom teaching by Jacksonville faculty, students have access to other UF College of Nursing faculty in Gainesville and Tampa through interactive teleconferencing and Web-based delivery methods.
