Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Science (Ph.D.) Program
The Ph.D. in nursing prepares scientists, scholars and leaders in nursing. The curriculum is three years in length for full-time students. Comprehensive research preparation is achieved by pairing students with faculty researchers. Students have access to an array of UF faculty members of interdisciplinary study and research. Individually directed dissertation research is a major aspect of the Ph.D. program. Courses in nursing and other science constitute a major portion of the first half of the program. With progression, increasing time is devoted to dissertation research. Research in the college falls into four research foci: aging and health, women's health, bio-behavioral interventions and health policy.
All core nursing coursework leading to a doctorate are available via the interactive teledistance classroom on the Jacksonville campus. Minor courses (12 semester hours) must be obtained in Gainesville, or from an approved Ph.D.-granting institution. Through a cooperative consortium agreement, UF doctoral students may complete a minor in education at the University of North Florida.
Students may also enroll in our B.S.N.-to-Ph.D. fast track program.
