Welcome from the Division Chief

Deborah S. Lyon, M.D.
The Division of General Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Florida College of Medicine - Jacksonville is proud to offer a broad range of gynecologic and obstetric expertise. Each of our physicians maintains a full range of ob/gyn skills, while developing specialty services in adolescent gynecology, pelvic ultrasonography/sonohysterography, geriatric gynecology, chronic pelvic pain, family planning and operative laparoscopy. We also provide obstetric services and postpartum care.
Our physicians play an important role in resident training. We supervise regular journal club meetings in which residents and faculty discuss study designs and recent advances in the field. As part of our monthly behavioral medicine rounds, faculty members and residents meet with a mental health colleague to share and discuss information and experiences.
Through education such as preoperative conference, practice review case conference, poster/paper assignments and resident thesis mentorship, we insure that each of our residents gets a comprehensive education in the specialty. Daily ward rounds and frequent contact with residents assures maximal patient safety in a rich educational environment.
We also provide:
- Direct supervision of the resident-generated inpatient gynecological services, including a very active surgical service
- Close faculty interaction in resident clinics and research projects
- An active didactic program with a supervised reading schedule, as well as faculty and guest lectures
Thank you for your interest in our division. If you have any additional questions please contact us.
