Welcome to the site for the University of Florida Department of Pathology Jacksonville. We have established a unique infrastructure for those interested in the discipline of pathology in which individuals can become fully trained in the field and, upon completing training, have the ability to function as an active member of any medical team.

The University of Florida Department of Pathology Jacksonville is located on the Shands Jacksonville campus, a 696-bed academic medical center. The department's faculty provide a comprehensive panel of pathology and laboratory services, including examining tissue and analyzing body fluids in order to identify diseases, abnormalities and microorganisms. Primary care physicians, surgeons and specialists at Shands Jacksonville, as well as at other facilities across the country rely on the department's consultative services and expertise.

Our department prides itself for maintaining one of the most progressive pathology departments in the U.S. For this reason, it is our responsibility to make a lasting impact on the future of pathology through education.

We have two ACGME-accredited programs - an anatomical and clinical pathology residency program and a cytopathology fellowship program. In addition, the department sponsors the Shands Jacksonville School of Medical Technology and provides special diagnostic and prognostic testing at the medical center's Tumor Analysis Laboratory. We also foster breast health education through partnerships with Shands Jacksonville's Breast Health Center, The Breast Journal and an Annual Multidisciplinary Symposium on Breast Disease.

The department employs seven full-time pathologists and three clinical scientists whose specialties cover all aeas of anatomical and clinical pathology, as well as a few subspecialties. Our faculty have received national and international recognition for their contributions to research, education and integrated patient care.

All of these distinguishing elements allow us the unique opportunity to provide our students, residents and fellows an integrated approach to all aspects of pathology, with emphasis on integrated patient care, education and research.
