Patient Care

The University of Florida Department of Pathology in Jacksonville is affiliated with the Shands Jacksonville Department of Laboratory Services and both are located on the first floor of the east expansion of the Shands Jacksonville clinical center. Services include:

  • Anatomic Pathology: Surgical pathology, cytology and autopsy

  • Pathology Consultative Service: Fine needle aspiration, ductal lavage, risk assessment, health education and second opinions

  • Core Laboratory: Chemistry, hematology, coagulation, toxicology, special chemistry and urinalysis

  • Flow Cytometry: Immunophenotyping and DNA ploidy

  • Microbiology: Microbiology and serology

  • Transfusion Services: Blood bank and related compatibility testing

  • Tumor Analysis: Immunocytochemistry, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and laser capture microscopy
