Research Center

A state-of-the-art 16,000 square foot research facility was opened in 2007 on the Jacksonville campus. The opening of the research laboratory facility resulted in support for additional research scientist faculty engaged in basic and translational research programs.

External Research Funding

The University of Florida Health Science Center-Jacksonville received $26.4 million in external research funding during the 2011-2012 fiscal year and funded 212 projects during this time. Over the last seven years, the external research funding at UFHSCJ has increased over 350 percent.

Internal Research Funding

The Health Science Center-Jacksonville Dean's Office offers two internal grant competitions annually, one for Jacksonville faculty, and the other for Jacksonville residents and fellows.

Research Day

In the spirit of academic and scientific collaboration, the Office of Research Affairs sponsors the University of Florida Health Science Center-Jacksonville annual Research Day event. Research Day includes selected platform presentations, poster viewing, guest speakers, and awards presentation.

Research Support Services in Jacksonville

The UF College of Medicine-Jacksonville offers on-campus biostatistical consulting and research support services to faculty, residents, fellows and other researchers. These biostatistical services are located in the Center for Health Equity and Quality Research (CHEQR).

The Clinical Research Unit (CRU) conducts Phase 1 and 11 clinical research studies in all areas of medicine. The CRU is staffed with dedicated registered nurses and can provide support and resources for outpatient studies.

As a service to faculty members, staff and employees of the Health Science Center-Jacksonville, the Institutional Review Board (IRB) provides guidance and assistance in preparing proposed projects that involve human subjects in research. The IRB also reviews and grants approval in accordance with the Federal Regulations governing human subject research.

The Jacksonville IRB currently oversees over 550* active studies.

* Numbers do not include studies submitted to the Western Institutional Review Board (IRB-04)

Meeting Schedule and Submission Deadlines

Note: All submissions for IRB review require a single electronic copy of all documents to be emailed and a single (signed) original hardcopy be provided to the IRB office. The IRB cannot log in the submission until the paper copy is received.
