Introduction
Welcome to the UF College of Medicine Jacksonville online Resident Manual. Our programs are designed to offer the finest experience possible. The faculty will challenge you, specifically as a student and practitioner of medicine. More broadly, you will be challenged as a participant in our nation's health delivery system as it undergoes substantial change. Naturally, during your tenure with us, you will respond to the direction of the chair of your department, to your program director, to other full-time faculty, and to UFHSCJ and Shands Jacksonville operating policies, rules and regulations.
We expect you to demonstrate the highest degree of medical professionalism in all your efforts. Courtesy, understanding and compassion toward patients and their families are an essential part of Shands Jacksonville and the UFHSCJ. A personal demeanor reflecting these characteristics to visitors and all hospital personnel is an attribute of the truly effective physician. The University of Florida and Shands Jacksonville are at the forefront of institutions that understand the importance of a unified administrative structure supporting a common vision of excellence. Central to this is strong physician leadership. As a member of our resident staff you are an important part of our leadership team.
Please become familiar with and use as a guide the helpful information in this manual. We are happy to have you as a member of our housestaff.
